70130 November 26, 1980 Mr. John F. Ahearne Chairman Commissioner U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N.W.

Washington, D.C.

20555 Re:

Docket 50-289 SP TMI - Unit 1 Middletown, Pennsylvania

Dear Mr. Ahearne:

I urge you to return TMI-l to service without delay.

There has been no evidence whatsoever of any damage to TMI-l as a result of the accident at unit #2 and, therefore, no justifiable reason to keep it inoperative.

Furthermore, modifications could be made while TMI-l is operating as has been the case with other nuclear plants around the country.

The future of nuclear power in tij.3 nation rests in your hands.

This all comes at a time when energy independence is recognized as more important than ever before.

The United States simply cannot afford to remove the nuclear option from our energy future.

1 If you decide to continue to hold TMI-l off line you will be setting a dangerous precedence considering the above realities.

Future utilities will be even more hesitant to go nuclear with a decision such as this one added to the already existing myriad of regulation,s l

and procedures that must be met prior to receiving an, operating,

license.

't-p*.

i Please give my point of view your strongest consideration.,, America l

needs nuclear power.

The nuclear industry needs TMI-l on line.

r-tt Very truly yours, q
