I have received a letter, dated October 26,1980 (copy enclosed), from Mr. Gillman on behalf.of your client.Mr. Fankhauser.

Such information is to be found in section 6.29 of the Zimer FSAR which is in the Clermont County Library, Third and Broadnay Streets, Batavia, Ohio, which Dr. Fankhauser has pre-viously used.
I sGgest that your client contact the Chemical and Nuclear Engineering Department of the University of Cincinnati for information on the history of BWR designs and in regard to Japanese and German reactor data.

Dear Sir:
On behalf of intervenor Dr. David Fankhauser, though not officially, I am writing to you in the hope that you may be of assistance in answering some questions which have come up concerning the Mark II suppression pool at the Wm. H. Zimmer power Station - Unit 1, Moscow, Ohio.
These questions are, listed:
^
- 1. What is the. function of the suppression pool?
- 2. What were the original test results (and interpretation) that concerned the NRC enough that the NRC ordered design changes?
- 3. Have the Japanese and West German Mark.II test data suggested design changes, and if so what changes? What theoretical models did the experiments corroborate?
- 4. What is the purpose of the major changes done on the lining of the suppression pool?
- 5. Can you suggest any material that highlights the function and/or history of the suppression pool structure, design and theory in BWR power stations?
Thankyou for any assistance that you can lend in answering these questions.
Sincerely, h+
