February 14, 2020 American Board of Health Physics ATTN: Amy Wride-Graney 950 Herndon Parkway, Ste 450 Herndon, VA 20170
Dear Ms. Wride-Graney:
I am writing to request information and a copy of the certificate issued to radiation safety officers by the American Board of Health Physics. During a recent U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) self-assessment, the staff identified that the certificate issued by the American Board of Health Physics for Radiation Safety Officers is missing from the NRC-maintained website (https://www.nrc.gov/materials/miau/med-use-toolkit/spec-board-cert.html).
The public website contains a list of all the specialty board certification processes that have received NRC recognition, as well as a sample certificate.
Since there has not been correspondence between the NRC and the American Board of Health Physics since the initial recognition of your board, the following information is requested to verify there have been no changes to your certification program processes or to your certificates. The NRC staff degrades the image quality of board certificates before we post it to our public website in order to prevent fraud.
- 1. Please submit a sample of the certificate that was issued in 2006 with the words Not Valid, written across it as a watermark.
- 2. If you have issued any newer version(s) from 2006 to present with changes to the certificate, please send the NRC a copy of these certificates.
- 3. Please address whether the American Board of Health Physics board certification process has changed between 2006 and today. Also inform us of any expected changes that are planned in the near future. If changes are planned or have been made, please explain how the certification process has changed and how the specialty board continues to be in compliance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 35.50, Training for Radiation Safety Officer and Associate Radiation Safety Officer?
- 4. Confirm that that your letter does not contain proprietary information in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding.
Please submit your response on the American Board of Health Physics letterhead and signed by a person authorized to speak for the board (i.e., its chief executive officer or designee). The response should include Attention: Chris Einberg, Chief, Medical Safety & Events Assessment Branch, Mail Stop T5B60.
A. Wride-Graney Thank you for your attention and assistance in helping us maintain a complete and current listing of specialty boards that have received NRC recognition. If you need further information or for any questions, please contact Ms. Jennifer Fisher at (301) 415-1456 or via e-mail at Jennifer.Fisher@nrc.gov or Dr. Donna-Beth Howe of my staff at (301) 415-5441 or via e-mail at Donna-Beth.Howe@nrc.gov.
- Regards,
