This is in respon~e*to IE Bulletin 73:..04,. "Environmental Qualification of Certain Stem Mounted Limit.- Switches Inside Reactor Containment".,
At the time of our or.iginal response to this bulletin, dated March 22,. 1978*~ the information requested was not available for Surry Power StationUnit Nos; 1 and 2.
In that submittal we connnitted to perform a survey for these limit switches at the next outage on each unit:&
This survey' ha;'now,been: completed for Surry Unit Nos. I and 2~. Namco Nadel D2400X limit switches were found, to* be in use on three(3r valves on safety related equipment in each c.Ontainment.* In each case these limit switches are on letdown orifice isolation valves.' 'Each unit has 3 *such valves, located in parallel, which are used to select ;the'proper letdown orifice(s) ta use for various ope.rational modes.
These valves also serve*as contairnnent isolation valves.
Our correc.tiv.e a~ti~ri: will be to replace the subject limit switc~hes with qualified switche~. and to locate the "latch in" relays outside containment.*
- This action is contingent 'upon the availability of qualified materials.
Our tentative schedule is to -c~~plete. these changes* at. the next*. refuel=i:ng on each unit.
