Dear Mr. Grier:

This supplemental response to IEB 79-01B is to inform you that our September 30, 1980 submittal anticipated the installation of replacement limit switches associated with three valves inside containment. Replace-ment of the NAMCO 700 series limit switches with those qualified for in-containment use, prior to station re-start, had been anticipated in that submittal.

Limit switches in stock at Beaver Valley, while qualified, were not compatible with the original model and replacements had to be ordered.

These replacement switches have not been received at this time.

These limit switches are on valves TV-CC-107D1, 107El and 110E3.

Interim operation with 700-series limit switches installed on these valves has been reviewed and approved by the Onsite Safety Committee.

TV-CC-107D1 and 107El are containment isolation valves for component cooling water from the reactor coolant pump thermal barriers.

Both valves are isolated on a CIB signal.

There is reasonable assurance that these valves would not re-open due to a limit switch failure and additionally, each is backed up by an isolation valve outside containment.

TV-CC-110E3 is a containment isolation valve for chilled water to the containment air recirculation coolers.

This valve would also close on a CIB signal and is backed up by an isolation valve outside containment.

l The air compressor would not be needed at this time and provisions have been made to cross-connect station air with containment air.

In any event, we will install a qualified instrument in these locations within the time frame for replacement permitted under IEB 79-01B.
