ItESULTS OF THE RF-EVALMATION OF MASONRY HALLS FOR THE POINT BEACil IJUCLEAR P L AN'"

1.0 INTRODUCTION

~

I.

The 180-day report required by NRC IE nulletin 80-11 concerning masonry wall design was sent to NRC under cover of Wisconsin Electric's letter dated November 14, 1980.

That report provided the information required by the nulletin, except for the results of the masonry wall i

evaluation for Point Beach.

This report provides the results of the masonry wall re-evaluation and a schedule for the upgrading work that is believed appropriate.,

2.0 RE-EVALUATION i

The 60-day response to the Bulletin included a list of safety-related masonry walls identified during the olant survey.

Each of these walls has been analyzed in accord-ance with Appendix B,

Section 6.0,

" Analysis and Design",

of the In0-day report.

The blockouts have been analyzed l

in accordance with Appendix B, Section 8.0,

" Criteria for the Re-evaluation of Masonry Blockouts".

Where signifi-i cant external loads exist on the blockouts, Section 6.0 was I

used for the analysis.

The results of the re-evaluation are sumnarized in Table 1.

For analysis purposes, some of the walls listed in the

"'.x 60-day report vere divided into several segments and each segment was analyzed separately.

Each segment is identi-fied by a unique suffix.

All wall segments and blockouts are included in Table 1.

4 3.0 PLANNr.D FUTURE ACTIONS An described in the July 18, 1980 transmittal letter with the 60-day report, we are proceeding with upgrading those walls and blockouts listed in Table 1 above that do not meet the re-evaluation criteria.

These walls and blockouts l

will be upgraded to meet the masonry wall re-evaluation and FFDSAR criteria.

In addition, mechanical shear con-nectors (e.g.,

clip angles) will be installed on the vertical and top edges of all walls where shear transfer is required.

This work is expected to be complete by September 30, 1981.

i The planned resolution of the facade stairwell walls.is l

i to make them non-safety-related by modifying the steam i

generator blowdown penetrations.

Design modifications are l

I being pursued so that the steam generator blowdown lines

[

can be isolated in the event of damage to the isolation I

valves located outside containment.

A schedule for this i

work will ne provided when the design is complete and l'

equipment delivery dates can be detennined.

These mod-f i

ifications will be made in coniunction with sched uled I

refueling outages for each unit.
