Dear Mr. Seyfrit:
i This letter is in response to the infraction identified as a result of inspec-l tions conducted at this facility during the period June 16 to 27,1980.
The corrective steps taken have been to assign the duties of Radiation Pro-tection Manager to the Technical Services Section, and specifically, to Mr. Jack Gahm, Technical Services Supervisor, and Mr. Ted Earst, Senior Plant Engineer.
Mr. Gahm has adequate time in applied radiation protection vork, and Mr. Borst is considered highly qualified in the radiation protec-tion field.
To avoid any further non-compliance, qualifications vill;be checked, and com-pliance with Regulatory Guide 1.8, September.1975 ascertained before any appointments are made to the RPM position.
We believe we are in full compliance, but point out that Mr. Borst vill have the required 3 years of applied radiation protection in June 1983 We would also point out that our present H.P. Supervisor meets the required qualifications for RPM, but we have not appointed him as RPM to avoid a conflict with the Operating Organization chain of comand.
We are in ec=pliance.
With reference to the Significant Appraisal Findings contained in Appendix A of the subject report, we are presently evaluating the findings and various alternative actions. ' Due to the nature of the findings, some of which-require 4
