J. P. O'Reilly letter to D. C. Switzer dated November 24, 1976 RE:

Circular 76-06

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This communication is forwarded in compliance with Item #3 of the referenced circular.

As discussed in Referencas (1) and (2), revision to tne inservice inspection program to include Class 2 and Class 3 system and components is currently undergoing an intensive investigative and review program with an expected commitment due for submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on or about July 1, 1977.

We anticipate the particular areas of concern expressed in Circular 76-06, i.e. assurance of the continued integrity of those safety-related piping systems which are not frequently flushed, or which contain nonflowing li-l quids, will be addressed and included in the above mentioned revision to the inservice program.

Connecticut Yankee is presently studying the feasibility of sampling and chemically analysing contents of the applicable piping for determination of corrosion activity.

With respect to Item #4 of the circular, the recommended 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
reporting requirement regarding adverse findings of the subject NDT evaluation is adequately covered by the Connecticut Yankee Safety Technical Specifications, Section 6.9.2.a(9).

k The request for submittal of a summary report within 60 days from completion of the proposed testing and examinations is in variance with the period specified in the ASME Code under Article IWA-6220(b). Article IWA-6220(b) stipulates that a report shall be made to the regulating agency within 90 days.

Because we anticipate including the applicable piping into the revised inservice in-spection program, to avoid duplicative reporting and in the interest of con-formity, we propose an extension of the summary report submittal requirement to 90 days.

Very truly yours, CONNECTICUT YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY i
