Dear Mr. Ahearne;

Subject:
NRC Docket 50-289sP, TMI-Unit 1 N/.~i g Middletcwn, PA The continued shutdown of TMI-l is unprecedented when one considers that similar plants are allowed to operate while making needed safety revisions.
The econcmic impact of the NRC's decision on Metropolitian Edison's ratepayers and stockholders is unwarranted.
Ecually important is the effect the NRC's decision has had and will have on the future viability of nuclear power in the USA.
All energy projections show at least a doubling of nuclear power generation plant capacity by the year 2000.
I urge you to reconsider the decision keeping TMI-l inactive and unproductive.
Very truly yours, 4
