O This report covers the operation of the Yankee Atomic' Electric Company at Rove, Massachusetts for the month of March, 1971.
At the beginning of the report period, plant load was 485 MWt, following the planned February 27-28 reactor shutdown.
At 0540 hours0.00625 days
0.15 hours
8.928571e-4 weeks
2.0547e-4 months
on March 1, plant load was 540 MWt and at 1600 hours0.0185 days
0.444 hours
0.00265 weeks
6.088e-4 months
the same day the plant i
l vs loaded to'600 MWt.
During the balance of the period plant load varied between 184.1.MWe and 185.2 MWe as the circulating water' inlet temperature
-fluctuated between 39 F and 33 F.
![
The second, Core IX vapor container air leakage surveillance period was terminated at 2h00 hours on March 31., with normal leakage nc ed.
Plant Abnormal Occurrences l
There were no plant abnormal occurrences during the report period.
l Plant Load Reductions l
-March 10 (1200-1240):
Load reduction to 177 MWe for control valve exercising.
March 17 (1145-1230):
Load reduction' to 177 MWe for control valve exercising.
March 24 (1150-1220):
Load reduction to 17T MWe for control valve O
exercising.
March 31 (llh5-1330):
Load reduction to 140 MWe for throttle valve I
exercising.
Plant Shutdowns f
I 1
There were no plant shutdowns during the report period.

The following is a list of pertinent maintenance items performed l
by the plant staff during the month of March, 1971.
{
t I
1.
The No. 3 charging pump was repacked.
i 2.
As. a result of inspection of the No.1 service water pump, its upper -
i shaft was sent off-site for preventive maintenance.
3.
The discharge line relief valve for the No. 3 charging pump was
{
replaced.

Chemistry The main coolant boron concentration was reduced from llh0_ ppm to 918 ppm to compensate for normal core depletion.
The main coolant pH averaged.5.21 during the period.
The main coolant beta-gamma specific activity and crud level averaged 1.12 x 10-1 ue/ml and 0.01 ppm, respectively, during the period.
During the report period the main coolant tritium concentration
. averaged h.0h uc/ml.

l The iodine-131 specific activity averaged 5.39 x 10- uc/ml and
~
G the' iodine 131/133 atomic ratio averaged 2.19, values consistent with the
'l previous report, thereby indicating no significant change in the magnitude of fuel. clad defects during the current. period.
