Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)

Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Inadvertent Reactor Scram / Safety Injection Met-Ed committed to cespond to your letter of September 21, 1979, prior to restart, per our letter of December 24, 1979 (GQL 1539). Your letter of February 2,1980, suggested we revise our submittal date to at least 120 days prior to restart,and we responded on March 26, 1980 (TLL 130) by committing to submitting an answer by June 27, 1980.

Our review of the inadvertent reactor scram and safety injection occurring l

during a monthly surveillance test of the safeguards system due to operator l

error is not fully completed,and we are,therefore, requesting an extension until January 31, 1981. We feel this extension request is not inappropriate in that an occurrence as described in your original letter can occur only during power operations, and is,therefore, precluded in IMI-l until restart.
