n\\ct. Nordu M.G IN REPLY REFER TO September 8,1980 Report No. 50-274/80-02 Mr. Glen D, Brown Chief, Fuel Facility and Material Safety Branch U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Region IV Arlington, Texas 76012
Dear Mr. Brown:
This report is in reply to the Notice of Violation Report No. 50-274/80-02 received from your office dated September 2, 1980.
As requested, the following corrective action in two areas will be l
instituted:
1)
Two separate radiation readings by two different people will be taken on each drum of waste prepared for shipment.
2)
An open side window GM type deter. tor will be used for montioring rather than our present Juno Model 8 lonization monitoring device.
Although we feel our method was adequate in obtaining a reasonable demonstration of compliance, it is felt the distance from which we were able to monitor the surfaces of waste drums was the primary difference in surface readings.
By incorporating the above two actions, we fully expect the next shipment of radioactive waste to comply with all rules and regulations.
Yours truly, O, .
