Dear Mr. Smith:
Via Reference (A), Combustion Engineering requested a license to export various nuclear materials and equipment from the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant to Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories in Canada.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the necessary licenses on December 9,1988, via References (B) and (C), with expiration dates of December 31, 1989. The export of materials covered by the licenses has not as yet been made. As such, this letter requests that these licenses (No. XSNM02402 and XCOM1018) have their expiration date extended.
In Reference (A) we indicated that the tentative schedule fo'r the shipment was in the February to May,1989 time frame depending on the availability of a shipping cask. Unfortunately, shipping cask unavailability combined with an extended outage at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant has precluded shipment to date. While it is still our intention to move forward with export of materials to Chalk River, it does not appear that we will be in a position to accomplish that shipment before the license expiration date.
For the reasons stated, we respectfully request,that you amend the existing licenses to extend there expiration dates to December 31, 1990.
