Dear Mr. Wolmeldorf:
. I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet you during the Cal. Rad Forum Meeting held on November 20, 1989, and to have some brief discussions regarding the Ward Valley low. level radioactive waste disposal facility licensing process.
I wish to reconfirm my interest to visit the Ward Valley site, if such a trip' can be arranged, and to have further discussions about the Southwest Compact-siting and licensing process. Additionally, as I indicated, I strongly support periodic meetings between our respective staffs so that we in NRC can benefit from your experience in using NRC guidance to conduct the licensing '
review of the Ward Valley site.
I believe that such feedback will be invaluable in identifying areas where guidance clarification is needed on areas that currently lack needed guidance. As a suggestion, perhaps the next Agreement State low-level waste management regulator s workshop would provide an opportunity for our staffs-to meet on this subject.
