Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Health Physics Evaluation By letter dated February 27, 1981, (TLL 024) Met-Ed provided supplemental responses regarding several items from ths Unit i Health Physics Evaluation.
This letter provides a follow-up response to Item 80-22-26.
The licensee,has procured new sources to be used for determining efficiencies of counting equipment. The sources are placed on air sample tilter paper to simulate actual counting geometries.
Autoradiographs made of the sources showed reasonable uniformity of distribution of the source material. However, these new sources do not have the same level of disposition uniformity as the older electroplaced source.
The new sources have been shipped to the National Bureau of Standards for certification. Once the sources have been certified, additional studies of the detection efficiencies will be effected. The NRC will be informed of the results of the efficiency tests.
