STATUS REPORT ON TECHNICAL INPUT TO RESEARCH, 1/31/81 - 5/29/81 (33213)
During this reporting period, WUR continued to work with RES as necessary to review research prorosals and provide input on ongoing research. The following details the significant events occurring within this reporting period.
In the early part of this reporting period, D. Martin continued to meet and wrk with RES to revise the package of Project Descriptive Sumaries (PDSs) for unfunded FY-81 research efforts. Agreements were reached and the final package was sent to J.B. Martin for Division approval by memorandum dated February 11,1981.
On February 2,1981, D. Martin (WMUR) and G. Birchard (RES) met with Dr. Vernon Rogers (RAECO) to discuss RAECO's proposed subcontract with PNL under FIN B-2269 on radon attenuation. Minor problems were resolved at that time, with no major probleus being identified.
On February 4,1981, D. Martin and P. Garcia of kNUR met with L. Doyle (RES) to coment on and discuss problems with the draft PNL FY-81 189 on long tem erosion controM, WUR consnents were transmitted to PNL by RES and all problems were subsequently resolved.
On February 18, 1981, WUR staff responsibilities for monitoring research efforts dere partially reassigned and described at a WMUR staff meeting.
On February 19, 1981, D. Martin and G. Gnugnoli of WMUR attended a WMRG meeting which discussed the proposed PNL 189 for B-2269 on radon attenuation.
The PDS and 189 were approved without change.
On March 4,1981, RES transmitted for review a single PNL 189 encompassing the new work planned earlier under six separate FIN numbers. Each FIN became a
" project element" in the comprehensive 189 from PNL. WMUR staff actively reviewed the subject 189 and relayed coments to RES for transmittal back to PNL.
These coments were then addressed by PNL in preparing a revised proposed 189 which was then relayed to WHUR for further review.

.m. MAY 2 91981 The avised comprehensive PNL 189 was then discussed in detail in a series of meetings on April 9 and 10,1981, attended by several and various WUR and RES staff, and G. Gee, W. Nelson and L. Schwendiman of PNL.
At this time RES is finalizing a revised 189 for transmittal to W for formal concurrence.
On May ll,1981, Division of Waste Management comments on ' Interim Radiation Risk Estimators" were sent by memorandum to F. Arsenault cf RES, having been coordinated by D. Martin of WMUR.
On May 13,1981, L. P.oberts and W. Hallett of ANL met separately with D. Martin and R. Scarano to discuss possible future WMUR support by ANL.
No cemittmentsaar agreements were reached.
On May 20, 1981, coments were forwarded by memo to J. Davis of RES on PNL quarterly reports for FINS 8-2269, B-2279, B-2292 and B-2370 for the period January through March,1981. No significant problems were identified.
On May 21, 1981, D. Martin and G. Gnugnoli met infonnally with V. Rogers (RAECO) and discussed progress to date and future plans for B-2269. No significant problems were identified.
