Dear fir. Eason:

' ' Q..s -

As discussed with you on Monday, June 15, 1981, this letter is to 'ibfonn L ? '

U.S. Ecology, Inc. of a pending visit to the Sheffield Low-Level Waste

-Disposal Site by Mr. R. John Starmer and myself of the Low-Level Waste L1t.ansing Branch (WMLL). The Sheffield visit is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24,1981.

The purpose of the visit is to observe field activities of the Illinois State Geological Survey and the U.S. Geological Survey. The Illinois State Geological Survey is performing their NRC - funded trench cap study on U.S. Ecology - owned land south of the Sheffield Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility. The U.S. Geological Survey is currently working offsite to the east and in the tunnel extending under trenches 1, 2, 3 and 11.

In addition, the visit will include a brief tour in order to familiarize

!!r. Starmer with the Sheffield facility.

I have contacted fir. Andy Armbrust, Assistant Site Manager, of the visit.

Please contact me if you have any questions concerning the site visit.

Sincerely yours, V

./ d L.
