Dear Mr. Denton:

Thank you for your response to my letter to President Reagan dated June 11,1981, concer.iing the issuance of new reactor opera'.ing licenses.

One minor point of clarification on my part is esse.'tial.

I would never ark that safety or the TMI-2 impacts be ignored.

I only request that you (as your letter indicates you will), exercise reasonable concern for stock-holders and rate payers.

Thank you for Chairman Hendrie's comments concerning the steps which can be taken to expedite licensing.

I have had our licensing liaison officer attend your hearings, and my company (Quadrex) is actively involved in many aspects of the licensing process.

I have beeen impressed with the degree of restraint you have exhibited in NRR.

However, my concern is based on the following question - is the overall interest of the public being satisfactority assured in a program supported by a level of staffing in the NRC which is available to keep the NRC from being in the critical path (which it should not be).

My personal best to you in the future, Very[

ul

yours, h

R. Jon Stouky
