Dear Mr. Seidle:
As indicated in my letter of October 29,1980 (Reference c), analysis of data derived from anchor bolts and nuts, with out-of-tolerance thread sizes, has been completed by our A/E, Bechtel. The nonconforming nuts and bolts were furnished by Industrial Mechanics, Inc. under Specification 10466-C-134.
The report indicates that of the nuts and bolts checked, not a single anc.'ior (nut-bolt combination) was found for which the predicted failure mode is in the threads. This results in no predicted reduction in design capacity.
We have concluded that had the out-of-tolerance nuts and bolts ramMned undetected there would not have been a significant reduction in safety.
We, therefore, no longer consider this matter to be a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item.
The final Bechtel report is in our possession and may be reviewed by NRC inspectors during any future inspection.
Yours very truly, 8103260 M bhat K A 3
