STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING BRANCH AUDIT FOLLOW-UP

/ [4 As discussed at the Structural Engineering Branch audit held in New' York during the week of April 6, 1981, please find enclosed the following information:

1. One copy of SHELLTECH REPORT'80-2 of December 20, 1980 entitled " Evaluation of Reinforced Openings in Large Steel Pressure Vessels."

We believe the forwarding of this report adequately addresses your inquiry regarding justification for the extrapolation used by CB&I on the gamma ratio stated as approximately 600 for the Waterford plant.

The report addresses the principle of extending the WRC lV7 curves. The SEZLLTECH work was conducted subsequent to CB&I's nozzle analysis for the Taf t Containment Vessel, however, the results are comparable.

This report is scheduled for publication by the Pressure Vessel Research Committee later this year.
