Thru: Willia = Ga==ill, Chief, Site Analysis Branch, L di TELEPHONE CONVERSATION - NORTH ANNA ENVIRON'.: ENTAL COALITION AND SITE ANALYSIS BRANCH STAFF MEYBERS At approxi=ately 11:00 a.m., August 16, 1973, Mrs. June Allen of the North Anna Environmental Coalition spoke in so=e detail with Seth Coplan, Seismologist and Harold E. Lefevre, Geologist of the Site Analysis Branch regarding geologic and seis=clogical =atters at VEPCO's North Anna site, Units 1 through 4.
.The = ore salient ite=s brought up by Mrs. Allen included:
1.
Site Visits - Frequency of visits to the North Anna sice by AEC geologists.
2.
Ground t-Tater - Significance of recund water seepage along the reported fault trace and potential for contamination of ground water by radioactive =aterials.
3.
Chlorite Seats - Significance of chlorita sea =s as related to foundations.
4.
Bedrock - Co=petency of hornblende gneiss as co= pared to other types of gneiss for. foundations.
5.
Site Geotechnical Hazards - Mrs. Allen asked for a discussion of the significant. geologic hazards looked at by the Co==ission.
6.
Reservoirs Loadinc - The relaticaship of reservoir loading to generation of earthquakes was discussed.
7.
Site Selection - Mrs. Allen queried the AEC's role in site selection studies.

e 2-AUG 2 21973 Harold Denton Mrs. Allen offered the following chrc.nology regarding the " fault" at the North Anna site:
March 23, 1970 - Dr. John Funkheuser, Geology Department, Tyler Con = unity College in Richmond observed the " fault" in the Units 1 and 2 excavation. Thic feature was brought to the attention of Mr'. Engle=an, Proj ect 2.nginee r.
March 27, 1970 - Mr. John Breidis, Stone and Webster, Project Geologist, delivered six rock semples te Dr. Cal,er of the Virginia Division of Mineral Resources fo. sr. lysis.
The samples were apparently taken from the North Anna Units 1 and 2 excavation.
Dr. Bruce Goodwin, Chairman, Geology Department, William and Mary College, visited the site and observed the " fault".
The date of Dr. Goodwin's visit was not deter =ined.
According to Mrs. Allen nothing has bsen introduced into the records of either Units 1 and 2 or Units 3 and 4 regarding the " fault".
Mrs. Allen states that Mr. Engle=an recalls his earlier encounter with Dr. Funkhouser, but does not specifically remember cention of the " fault."
In closing,,Mrs. Allen stated that she would. send to the Sit,e Analysis Branch press clippings relative to the North Anna site.
