e B'y Eft-81-02, dated January 27, 1981, the Commission k tified of.tt.e intent of IE to issue a Notice of Violation and Proposed Impo M af,qki) Penalties in the amount of Two Thousand Six Hundred Fifty Dollars t Milfe Steel Foundry Company. The proposed penalties were based on alleged violations reizting to:

1) failure to adequately train radiography personnel; 2) failure te perform certain radiation surveys; 3) failure to conduct a quarterly inspectier. and maintenance program for radiographic devices; a' failure to conduct quarterly physical inventories of radiographic devices; and 5) failure to file reports of exposures to individuals and to the Commission.

The licensee responded to the Notice in a letter dated February 19, 1981. After consideration of the licensee's response, the IE Staff concluded that all but one violation did or. cur and no adequate reascns were given by the licensee for mitigation or remission of the proposed perai:ies. Onw penalty was remitted in -its entirety (the item associated with conducting quarterly physical inventories of radiographic devices). Accordingly, an Order Imposing Civil Penalties in the amount of Two Thousand One Hundred Fifty Dollars ras been issued today. The licensee and the State or Illinois are being infer ed by telephone.

Since this matter involves remission of one item, a news release will be issued about.the time the licensee is infcrmed.

Under the terms of the Order, the licensee may, within 25 days of the date of the Order, pay the civil penalties or request a hearing.
