Mr. Ivan W. Smith, Chairman #

Atcmic Safety Licensing Board .,1 25 North Court Street Harrisburg, PA 17101

Dear Mr. Smith:

As Engineers serving mostly Industrial and Cor.unercial clients, we are aware of the impact on the economy of our area by the high cost of electrical energy used by industry and business.

We, therefore, want to add our voice to the multitude recom-mending and requesting that your agency use all its resources to facilitate the restart of TMI Unit 1 for the production of desperately needed reasonable cost electricity.

We, along with others in the technical professions, have long advocated the safe use of nuclear power generating stations.

The record.of safety .for nuclear power generating plants is amongst the highest, and probably is the highest, of any in-j dustry in the country. The damages suffered by the accident at TMI Unit 2 have been for the most part psychological, and the industry has repeatedly proved that a safe, rational and efficient cleanup process can be implemented. Please use all of your offices to not only encourage the restart of TMI 1 but to expedite the cleanup and restart of TMI 2.

Sincerely, Albert K. Sauer, P.E. g
