Dear Mr. 0' hilly:

On February 4, 1981, Mr. John Rausch of NRC Region II was notified of a substantial safety hazard under 10 CFR 21 concerning pinched wires in a safety related Square D motor control center. This letter provides an interi= report on the item.

Square D Company engineers have been notified of the problem, and they have offeren a solution to the problem.

Details are being developed for revising wiring ties in the motor control centers to eliminate possible pinching of wires.

Specific details will be provided in a final repott.
