Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On February 4, 1981, Mr. John Rausch of NRC Region II was notified of a potential significant deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e) concerning mcfsture in component cooling pump motor lA.
This letter provides an inte. rim report on this item.
Electrical maintcaance found the component cooling pump motor lA to be wet and upon meggering the stator coils, it was found to be grounded.
The motor was wiped dry and external heat was applied per Westinghouse instructions. After drying the motor, the megger readings on the motor were good. However, earlier history on the motor showed that the motor was inad-vertently run without cooling water. The motor was manufactured by Westinghouse.
A decision has been made to reinsulate the stator windings to insure the integrity of the motor. Specific details required by 10CFR50.55(e) will be given in a final report.
