Dear Mr. Reid:
Your letter of February 25, 1981, rec;uested submittal of the results of a visual inspection of FA Holddown Springs perforced during the present refueling outage. Your letter further steced "
.if no spring failures are identified, we will censider this natter closed." The Sacra:, ento Municipal Ut ili ty Dis trict pe r fo rce:: the referenced inspection under procedure STP-231, Fuel Assembly Holddown Spring Inspection. The procedt.re was completed March 2,1581.
The procedure examined 103 of the 145 spent fuel assemblies scheduled for further ir idiation. No damage to holddown springs was observed.
The remaining -2 assemblies were not inspected due ta their containing con'.rol rods or source assemblies which precluded visual examination of the holddown springs.
Based on the sbsence of any damage to the 103 springs inspected, no further inspection is considered necessary.
