The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by NRC staff on this date.,

EPICOR-II RESIN LINER SHIPMENT F,0R RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT The U.S. Department of Energy (00E) shipped an EPICOR-II resin liner (PF-16) from the site to Battelle Columbus Laboratories in Columbus, Ohio, at approximately 7 :10 a.m., today. The EPICOR-II system was used to process approximately 500,000 gallons of contaminated water in the Auxiliary Building as a result of the March 28, 1979, accident.
Th'e resins and liner will undergo extensive testing and research to provide additional information on the handliag, storage, processing, and disposal of this kind of radio-active waste.
Media interest is expected because of public sensitivity to TMI related events and the licensee /D0E issuance of a joint press release. The NRC does not plan to issue a press release. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been informed.
This preliminary notification is issued for information only and no furthe. actior, by the NRC is anticipated.
The NRC TMI Program Office received notification of this cccurrence by monitori r events as th urred this inf ation was current as of :0 4m.
