This letter is to follow-up on recent telephone conversations between your staff (M. Fairtile and J. Volglewede) and L. F.
Rubino of Philadelphia Electric concerning our September 30, 1980 license amendment request submitted for Peach Bottom Unit 2 to expand the maximum average planar linear heat generation rate (MAPLHGR) limits over an increased exposure range.
l Your staff advised that because of NRC fission gas release concernsathighexposure,theMAPLHGRlimitat40,000 MWD / twill be reduced from 9.3 kw/ft as we submitted on September 30 to 8.4 kw/ft for Unit 2 8D274L and 80274H fuel types. We are in agreement with this reduction and have attached revised Technical Specification Figures 3 5.1.C and 3.5.1.0.

if this matter is satisfactorily resolved, the above MAPLHGR reduction will no longer be required and our original as submitted MAPLHGR limits will be applicable.
