Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

In recent months, an increase in oil and gas axploration in the vicinity of the South Texas Project (STP) has been observed. Pursuant to discussions with the NRC Project Manager, Mr. Don Sells, this is to confirm that Houston Lighting & Power Company continues to monitor these activities for any significance to the STP. Houston Lighting & Power Company reviews on a weekly basis the status of oil and gas activities in the vicinity of the STP site. Production wells within five miles of the STP, as well as other activities of potential significance in the vicinity of the site, are reviewed. Those activities which have the potential to impact the STP will be analyzed and described in amendments to the STP FSAR.

Very truly yours, k j J. H. Goldberg, Vice President Nuclear Engineering and Construction RWL/ksn h 8105180177
