Dear Mr. Denton:

In response to your letter of May 6, 1981, we agree that the Company owes the NRC information on several items which must be answered before the NRC can move ahead with approval of the Submerged Demineralizer System (SDS).

The major reason for the slippage in providing the information has been the need to fully review and incorporate into the required documentation a revised flow sheet which was developed based upon recent column testing.

We are confi-dent the use of this data will have major benefits in terms of the effectiven?ss of removal *of strontium and reduction in the number of' liners which are generated from processing of the water.

The use of staff-to-staff meetings to address questions and open issues relating to approval of the SDS has been very helpful as the field activities have neared completion.

We shall continue to keep your staff advised of all information and circumstances which affect either approval of the SDS or its schedule for opera-tional rerdiness.

Comp,'crion of the SDS and preparation for its operation has been our highest priority of those activities which are directed toward making progress cn cleanup, and we accure you that that will continue to be our approach.

Sincere g/
