Gentlemen!
This is in regard to your request for approval of a mute to be used for transport of spent reactor fuel as contained in your letter of December 9, 1980.
The " Proposed Primary Routing" submitted with your December 9,1980 letter is judged to meet the regulatory requirements in accordance with 10 CFR Part 70.73 and accordingly is approved.
Please note that assuring highway safety is the responsibility of the licensee and carrier and our approval is not intended to provide relief in this regard. Furthennore, the approval does not guarantee that there will be no local or state legislation applicable to the route that res stricts or prohibits the novement of r,adioactive material.
During seasonal periods when inclement weather with accompanying hazardous road conditions can occur with short notice, the appropriate state police should be contacted with regsrd to road conditions before a shipment com-mences.
The initial arragnements with law enforcement agencies along the route, as required by 10 CFR Part 73.37(a)(2), have been completed by the HRC staff.
Data relating to these arrangements and a copy of the approved route are enclosed. This infonnation is to be incorporated into your shipment plan and provided to your carrier along with instructions regarding its use.
Please note that the notification requirements of 10 CFR Part 73.72 for each individeal shipment still apply.
