Dear Mr. Chairman:

It has come to my attention that there is some concern regarding licensing delays for nuclear plants which will be completed and ready for operation in 1981 and 1982.

Both units at Arkansas Nuclear One are licensed and operating but each unit is subject to a continuing liscense review by the N.R.C.

If indeed there are staff delays in liscensing new plants, this may precipitate delays in the staff's other liscense review work.

If this happens Arkansas rate payers will incur additional generation and purchased power costs.

I would appreciate it if I could receive at your earliest convenience a complete response concerning these liscensing delays.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Please mark your reply to the attention of Ms. Sydney Probst of my staff.
