DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Environmental Qualification of Safety Related Electrical Equipment In a letter dated April 1, 1981 from Thomas M Novak, Assistant Director for Operating Reactors, Division of Licensing, USNRC, we were provided with the preliminary results of the Staf f's review of environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant. A number of potential equipment deficiencies involving lack of proper documentation, apparent lack of justification of assumed environmental conditions, and apparent inadequate environmental testing were identified.
We have reviewed the qualification deficiencies identified by the Staf f and have concluded that the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant can continue to operate safely while this matter is being resolved.

UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION NORTHERN STATES POWER COMPANY PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-282 50-306 LETTER DATED April 10, 1981 RESPONDING TO NRC LETTER DATED APRIL 1,1981 ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY RELATED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT Northern States Power Company, a Minnesota corporation, by this letter dated April 10, 1981 hereby submits, in response to the NRC letter dated April 1,1981, our findings regarding continued safe operation with certain deficiencies in the documented qualification of safety related electrical equipment.
