Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On February 5, 1981, Mr. Joht. Rausch of NRC Region II was notified of a substantial safety hazard under 10CFR21 concerning a missing air baffle in the emergency feedwater pump motor 1B.
This letter provides an interim report en the item.
Electrical maintenance was performing a modification to the emergency feedwater pump motor 1B when they noticed that there was no air baffle at the end af the motor similar to the A motor. The motor was made by General Electric.
Checking into the history of the motor, it appears that the 1B motor was shipped to South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) without the air baffle. An air baffle has been ordered for the 1B motor.
