Clayton to Varga JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT - UNITS 1 AND 2 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Gentlemen:
As requested by the NRC staff, Alabama Power Company hereby submits the enclosed confirmation of the basis for the loss of flow trip to prevent DNB in the event of a loss of one or more reactor coolant pumps. The minimum DNBR for the loss of flow transients is limited to 1.34 which is consistent with the margin used to offset the rod bow penalty in the referenced Unit 1 proposed technical specification change. The same margin is currently used in the Unit 2 technical specifications. Therefore, both the Unit 1 and 2 Technical Specifications Bases should be modified as indicated in the enclosure to reflect this new DNBR limit.
