Gentlemen:

e This refers to your letter dated January 23, 1981 requesting that we keep you informed of the progress and conclusions of our investigation of the proposed SWS Plaza site in Rochelle Park, New Jersey.

We have performed several surveys to characterize the extent of radioactive material on the site and our investigation is continuing based on our findingr.

thus far, it is likely that contaminated soil will need to be removed before the site may be developed. When we determine that the site has been made acceptable for development, considerations about radioactivity sho ld have no s

bearing on your staff's recommendations regarding on-site drainage facilities and stormwater management. We are working with SWS, Incorporated to solve this problem, We will inform you when a final determination of the status of the site has been made.

Sincerely, C

J hn D.
