\\I April 17, 1975 Mr. J. G. Keppler Re: Docket 50-155 Regional Director License DPR-6 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Big Rock Point Region III IE Bulletin 75-03 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Dear Mr. Keppler:

IE Bulletin 75-03, dated March 17, 1975, describing the

" Incorrect Lower Disc Spring and Clearance Dimension in Series 8300 and 8302 ASCO Solenoid Valves" required action be taken by us with a written report to be submitted within 30 days. Following are the results of our investigation:

la.

We have four (4) ASCO valves, Model HTX8300-C-61-RF,

(

in service in safety-related systems as defined by the Big Rock Point Plant'Q-List.

Ib.

There are no Model 8302-C ASCO valves in use at Big Rock Point.

2.

As a result of failures of ASCO, Model 8300-C-61-RF valves during 1972 and 1973, an extensive investigation and test pro-gram was conducted at Big Rock Point by plant and ASCO Valve personnel.

This resulted in the replacement (in March 1973) of all 8300-C-61-RF valvec with the ledesigned HTX8300-C-61-RF valves. Our experience with these valves has been perfect to date.

No kits for the 8300-C-61-RF vere ever stocked. All 8300-C-61-RF valves have been returned to the manufacturer.

Yours very truly, d-u RBS/mel Ralph B. Sewell Nuclear Licensing Administrator h
