Report Date: July 30, 1975 2B.
Occurrence Date: July 18, 1975 - classified on July 23, 1975 3.
Facility: Big Rock Point Plant, Charlevoix, Michigan h.
Identification of Occurrence: Discharge canal water not analyzed.
5 Conditions Prior to Occurrenge_: Plant operation at 66 MWeg.

Description of Occurrence: The daily discharge canal water sample was not taken on July 18, 1975 and, therefore, was not analyzed as required by Technical Specificatior. 6.h.3.D.
A checklist for such daily activ-ities is in use, but adherence to its use was deficient.
7 Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence: Failure to perform routine duty.

Analysis of Occurrence: The daily beta / gamma sample analysis on the canal is a backup check on the continuous canal discharge monitor. The gamma monitor recorder chart indicated normal background activity for the period which was not sampled by the t'chnician. Therefore, no e
hazard existed due to this deficiency.
9 Corrective Actien: The responsible technician was informed of the defi-ciency and all technicians in the work group were made aware of the im-portance of adhering to license requirements. A supervisory overcheck of daily surveillance tests of this type has been initiated.
10.
Failure Data: This is believed to be the first occasion at Big Rock Point where the daily canal sampling and analysis was not performed.
