Gentlemen:
In response to IE Bulletin No. 80-16, the Rosemount Model 1151 Pressure Transmitcers presently installed at Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 (ANO-1) and Unit 2 (AN0-2) do not have the output codes affected by IE Bulletin No. 80-16. Twelve (12) Rosemount Model 1152 Pressure Transmitters were found to be installed at ANO-1 and none were found to be installed at AN0-2.
Of the twelve Model 1152 Pressure Transmitters installed at ANO-1, four were found to be not included in the scope of the Bulletin, four are used for level indication on the core flood tanks, and the remaining four are on the Emergency Feedwater (EFW) system.
The four installed on the core flood tanks serve a relatively static function.
The core flood tank level is not subject to significant level changes except during discharge.
Therefore, we do not believe the po'.:si-ble defect presents a degradation of safety in this application since excessive over pressurization or reverse pressurization will not occur.
For those four installed on the EFW system, there are two scenarios which would drive the 1152 Pressure Transmitters into the range of the defect.
The first case would be the result of the plugging of the oriface plate.
This does not present a significant problem since several other indica-tions (eg. SG Level, SG Pressure, etc. ) exist to inform the operator there is ER4 flow to the steam generators.
The second case is that of a steam line break which could result in a flow greater than design.
In 8010100 g VEMef A MICOLE SCUTH UTIUTIES SYSTEM
Mr. K. V. Seyfrit July 31, 1980 this case, flow indications to the steam generator are still available via the alternative means above.
The operators will isolate the broken steam generator based upon safety grade steam generator pressure indications (diverse from the EFW flowi which will mitigate any problem with EFW flow.
4 To assure an adequate and appropriate margin of safety, we have initiated a design change to replace the EFW 1152 Transmitters.
This modification is currently scheduled for the next refueling outtge.
The attached table presents the requested information for the Rosemount Model 1152 Pressure Transmitters which are locatad on the ANO-1 EFW system.
Very truly yours, b&fV David C. Trimble Manager, Licensing DCT:PMH:skm Attachment
