Enclosed please find a September 16, 1980 letter from Timex Corporation l
requesting an amendment to extend the expiration date from November 1,1980 to November 1,1981 on export license XB001046. The license authorizes the export of 400,000 curies of tritium gas, 'in sealed light sources for the production of electronic timepieces, to Singapore and the Philippines for final assembly.
It is noted that Timex would accept a reduction in the quantity of tritium gas now authorized for export under the license if it would expedite the approval of the extension, since shipments of tritium gas under the license have been very limited to date.
The license amendment request is forwarded for Executive Branch review in accordance with the provisions set forth in the October 23, 1980 Executive Branch views regarding the proposed export.
We would appreciate your views, in accordance with established procedures and from the overall perspective of the Executive Branch, as to whether the proposed export amendment meets the applicable criteria in the Atomic Energy Act as amended by the Nuclear Non-proliferation Act of 1978.
