OCT 1 1980 Docket No. 50-320 Mr. Leo L. Navickis 1501 Gardner, #816 Peoria Heights, Ill. 61614

Dear Mr. Navickis:

I am writing in response to youc letter of August 8, 1980, to Mr. Denton regarding the contaminated water at Three Mile Island.

NRC has prepared a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for public comment on the decontamination and disposal of radioactive wastes resulting from the Three Mile Island, Unit 2, accident.

The PEIS, a copy of which is enclosed for your informatiom, focuses on the environ-mental issues and alternative methods associated with the performance of these cleanup activities.

It also answers your questions regarding the contaminants in the water at TMI.

I appreciate your concerns and assure you that every effort is being made to ensure the continued protection of the health and safety of the public, not only at the Three Mile Island Station, but also at all nuclear power plants.

Sincerely, Wlw
