Mr. Boyce H. Grier, Director Region I U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406

Dear Sir:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)

Operating License No. DPR,73 Docket No. 50-320 IE Bulletin 79-25 This is in response to IE Bulletin 79-25 and is submitted subsequent to our letter of July 9, 1980 (TLL 335).

The subject Bulletin, " Failures of Westinghouse BFD Relays in Safety-Related Systems" addresses problems encountered with certain eight and twelve pole Westinghouse relays.

Both the Bulletin and its attached Westinghouse Technical Bulletin NSD-TP-79-05, make it clear that the problem does not relate to four pole relays.

The only relays in use in the TMI-2 facility of the identified model are four pole. Therefore, this constitutes our entire response as this Bulletin is not applicable to the TMI-2 facility.

Sincerely, G. K. Hovey Director, TMI-2 GKH:RIN: dad cc:
