f' gNMEI Gentlemen:
,n h'e have been approached by one of our uti1\\
- p ermine if s
we can store natural UF at the 35W Commerci
.,tae Plant for an 6
aarter of this extended period of time, beginning early in the
-~
s year. After storage, the UF w uld be sent to DOE for enriching and subse-6 quent processing in the fuel cycle.
In accord with that inquiry, we are requesting authori::ation to receive and possess up to a maximum of 3,000,000 pounds of uranium as natural UF f r storage purposes only as shown in the attached S'O! license revi-6 sion page. Also attached is a check for $150 to cover the administrative amendment licensing fee as specified in 10 CFR 170.
Cylinders would be stored outside, but within the CNFP security fence, on l
timbers designed to give support and " cradle" the items to guard against I
rolling, and in an area prepared and maintained under weed control.
l Containers will be sealed and equipped with valve protectors, and will be routinely monitored by Health-Safety personnel to detect potential leakage and to assure the ecatinued adequacy of storage conditions.
1 In the extremely unlikely event that a leak were to develop, CNFP emergency personnel could respond effectively to the event, having been trained in the l
use of SCBA equipment.
Such personnel will receive additional training l
as necessary governing special precautions to be exercised when dealing with UF.
e e,
we
, that the probability of significant Icakage 6
is very remote, and that no adverse environmental impact will result from the proposed storage. Outside storage of enriched UF cylinders has been 6
previously determined to have no adverse environmental impact (reference Conversion Facility).

We would appreciate your prompt review of this license amendment request.
in light of our near-term need to respond to our customer in time to make adequate provision for storage.
Thank you.
