UNACCEPTABLF WELDS DOCUMENTED AS ACCEPTABLE - HTRD-50-518/81-07 The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE, Region II Inspector, R. W. Wright on February 6,1981., as NCR 11MPA-125. In co p11ance with partgraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR Part 50, we are encicting the first interim report on the subject deficiency. TVA anticipates transmittig the final report on or before May 5,1981.

ENCLOSURE HARTSVILLE NUCLEAR PLANT A UNACCEPTABLE WELDS DOCUMENTED AS ACCEPTABLE 10CFR50.55(e) REPORT NO. 1 (INTERIM)
HTBD-50-518 /81-07 Descriotien of Deficiency Unacceptable welds have been docunanted as inspected and accepted. The welds involved have to do with system supports which are used to support piping and ductwork of several safety systens. At the present tine, approximately 60 out of 920 total welds have been identified as deficient although they were passed by six inspectors. Unacceptable welds were attributed to deficiencies such as are strikes, overlaps, undercuts, and slight undersizing. 'Further investigation revealed instances where the welder's and inspector's identification had not been stamped in accordance with applicable procedures. There were also cases where welds were not made in accordance with applicable drawings. A similar nonconfor=ance was reported

Interin Pregress TVA is centinuing their investigation into the necessa y correc'ive actions and_ actions to prevent recurrence.
