August 27, 1975 Mr James G. Keppler US !!uelear Regulatory Commission
'l99 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 DOCKETS 50-155 & 50-255, LICE!!SES DPR-6 & DPR-20 BIG ROCK POIliT & PliISADES PLA!iTS The purpose of this letter is to update previous responses to IE Bulletins 75-04 and 75-OLA for the Big Rock Point and Palisades Plants.
Approximately 90% of the deficient floor and va21 penetrations seals have been corrected at Pclisades at this writing. Work is in progress and it is expected that it vill be completed by the end of this week, barring unforeseen delays.
I At Big Rock Point it hes been concluded that a silicon RTV foam type material is the only suitable sealant material for use in the open bay type penetrations thct are located in the control room floor beneath the control console and cabinet.
It has been further concluded that the work should only be done during a shutdown and we plan to complete the work during the shutdown that is presently g
scheduled to commence January 9, 1976.
The Palisades Plant staff has concluded that it is desirable to procure five ad-ditional dry chemical fire extinguishers and two additional CO2 extinguishers.
Ilormal Company procurement procedures are being implemented.
At the Big Rock Point Plant we have decided to install s=oke detection equip =ent in the cable penetration areas both inside and outside of containment and in the electrical equip =ent room, and a water sprinkler system in the cable penetration room outside of containment. The sprinkler system vill tie into the existing fire system.
It appears possible this work may be completed during the fall of it vill be completed no later than during the outage which 1975 In any event, is -esently scheduled to commence Jaruary 9, 1976.
As a temporary measure at the Big Rock Point Plant, personnel have been reminded of equipment available to combat fire in the cable penetration room and are being reinstructed in the fire plan.
