Dear Mr. Ahearne:
I am writing to you to express my opposition to the restarting of Unit i reactor at inree Mile Island.
While I live in Florida and this reactor is up in the Harris-burg, Pa. area, a considerable distance from me, nonetheless I feel that I have an interest in what happens there.
Radioactive accidents, radioactive leaks are not confined to the immediate vicinity.
The radiation enters the atmosphere and is carried by wind and rain to other parts of the ccuntry.
The radioactivity enters the soil and infects the food grown on that soil.
That food is shipped to dif-ferent parts of our country.
The radioactivity enters the waters and is carried along by tributaries to other rivers and lakes throug'. meuche country.
In short, pollution of one part of our country pollutes the whole.
Another thing.
It seems that General Public Utilities and the Nuclear Regulatory Comm. ignore the process of public hearings and proceed to do whatever they want to do without restraint.
This was done in the case of releasing kryp' ton gas into the atmosphere without notice and without hearing as required by law.
Why does a governmental agency, designed to protect the people, cooperate with this form of anarchism?
It must be because both feel that they can get away with it.
Fortunately, there are watchdog groups who will resist this flagrant violation of law.
