Clearwater, Florida c) i e February 6, 1981 Mr. James F. Ahearne Chai)rman U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H. Street, N. W.

Wachington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-289sP TMI UNIT:.1 MIDDLETON, PA.

Preventing operation of the undamaged TMI Unit 1 is very shortsighted and unnecessary. The unit has been modified and needs to be started at once. The delay is overly long and the absence of this unit frcm its system generating ability la costing the Metropvlitan Edison and-its customers as much 3500,000 daily.

Nuclear power is safe, inexpensive and badly needed, especially in the fossil fuel deficient N. E. areas of the nation. The NRC 'is hereby urged to get TMI Unit 1 on the line at once.
