Dear Mr. Ahearne,
's m { b As a mother of three young adults who are just startL out on their own I am very much concerned about their future energy needs and other young people just like them.
I know how important are the decisions made by the Nuclear Regulatory C ommission.
I am watching with much interest the outcome of what you will decide about Three Mile 'sland since it first became headline news on March 25th 1979 I am well aware that it takes 10 years to build a nuclear power plant and therefore requires more long range planning to ensure that our future energy needs will be met.
I know too, that other countries in Eur' ope and Asia are more realistic and less inclined to view nuclear power as emotionally as do enough of our citisens: consequently they are moving full steam ahead while we drag our feet.
With this in mind I do feel it important that we follow President Reagan's advice and place our national wellbeing over such special interest groups who thrive on isolated fears and seek only to fan any flames-which of course, weakens our national aims and leaves us open to any and all blackmail.
The object of my letter is to urge you to please permit Aetropolitan Edison Company to restart Unit One of Three Alle l
Island since it was not involved or da= aged as a result of the March 28th.1979 accident..It would be shortsighted and unfair to the residents of Pennsylvania to keep.it. outs.of action..I know how much we in Conn ~ecticut benefit, from our nuclear power pla nts.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
+
