Dear Mr. Miller:
1 I am replying on behalf of Chairman Ahearne to your letter of December 12, 1980 with which you enclosed your paper, "Compara-tive Analysis of Federal Legislative !!andates for Public Safety. "
Your paper appears to have relevance to the Commission's " Plan for Developing a Safety Goal," developed by the Commission's Office of Policy Evaluation.
I ain enclosing for your information a photocopy of the Federal Register notice which sets out the plan.
I have also asked that your letter and paper be filed in the Commission's Public Document Room as part of the documenta-tion relevant to this safety goal development.
As the " Plan" notes, subsequent stages of this program wil1 in-volve participation by the public in meetings and workshops.
You may wish to comment on subsequent policy papers and attend one or more of these meetings.
I appreciate your having sent us this material, which will be useful to us in our consideration of how our statutory authority and goals compare with that of other agencies.
Sincerely,
