Dear Mr. MacDonald:
We respectfully request revision of Certificate of Compliance No. 9079, Model HN-100, Series 2, to permit optional use of improved materials of construction and optional use of an integral stainless steel liner.
The requested change to materials of construction would permit optional use of ASTM A-516, Grade 70 material in all instances where ASTM A-36 is presently specifiec.
ASTM A-516, Grade 70 possesses slightly improved strength prnperties over A-36 (5% greater yield stress and 20% greater ultimate stress) and clearly superior brittle fracture resistance properties, possessing a nil-ductility transition temperature some 40 -
50 below that of A-36.
The second requested change would permit optional use of a twelve gauge stainless steel, Type 304, ASTM A-240, cask interior cavity surface liner.
The liner will be permanently installed in the cavity and seal welded along all edges.
Enclosed is our check number 5361 for $150.00 to cover the minor amendment fee for Category llE Packages under 10 CFR 170.31.
